Department: Environmental and Natural Resources Division (ENRD), Directorate of Public Works
About the Role
DAWSON is looking for a Natural Resources Specialist to support the management and protection of Fort Huachuca’s natural resources. This position will focus on Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) monitoring, habitat management, and Sikes Act compliance, ensuring the Army meets its mission while protecting critical ecosystems.
What You’ll Do
TES Program Support
Conduct surveys, monitoring, and habitat assessments for federally listed species.
Collect field data and support population and habitat trend analysis.
Assist in the preparation and review of Biological Assessments (BAs), Biological Opinions (BOs), and related documents.
Support coordination with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) and state agencies.
Sikes Act Support
Support the development, update, and implementation of the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP).
Ensure compliance with the Sikes Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA), and other federal and state natural resource regulations.
Assist with project reviews to evaluate potential impacts on TES and other sensitive resources.
Field Work & Monitoring
Conduct fieldwork, including species identification, ecological assessments, and habitat mapping.
Utilize GPS/GIS to document survey data and update natural resources layers.
Prepare maps, charts, and visualizations to support environmental planning.
Outreach & Reporting
Support environmental training and awareness programs for installation personnel.
Assist in drafting reports, fact sheets, and outreach materials to promote conservation and compliance.
Contribute to annual and periodic reporting requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
2+ years of experience in natural resources management, TES monitoring, or environmental compliance.
Familiarity with Sikes Act requirements, ESA Section 7 consultations, and INRMPs.
Field survey and species identification skills (Southwest ecosystems preferred).
Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency with GPS and GIS tools for field data collection and mapping.
Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
Ability to conduct fieldwork in rugged outdoor environments.
Knowledge of federal and Arizona environmental regulations.
Additional Requirements
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary environmental team.
U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to meet Army installation security requirements.
Must be comfortable with outdoor fieldwork, sometimes in challenging terrain and weather conditions.
