UXO Technician III

SUMMARY: Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician III (Tech III) to escort, survey, and identification of MEC for Natural Resources (NR) and Cultural Resources (CR) programs at U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii (USAG-HI) training areas, some of which may be highly vegetated, mountainous and rugged, on the Islands of Oahu and Hawaii. MEC escort services will be performed at Schofield Barracks (SB), Makua Military Reservation (MMR), Kahuku Training Area (KTA), Kawailoa Training Area (KLOA), Dillingham Military Reservation (DMR) on the Island of Oahu and Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) on Hawaii Island.

Hour pay: $35-$40 based on experience and interview.

DESCRIPTION: The UXO Tech III will support NR and CR Program operations. Attend mandatory MEC Escort trainings on 15 November (UXO Awareness by Army EOD and Depleted Uranium Training). The UXO Tech III will be a resident of Oahu. During MEC escort operations, the UXO Tech III will be compensated up to 8 hours per day at 4% hazard pay. Overtime will be compensated, as needed.

After pre-operational activities are completed, the UXO Tech III will support NR and CR operations, which will include hiking up to five (5) miles per day off-trail in steep and rugged environments. When the UXO Tech III locates surface and subsurface MEC, they will inform the staff being escorted, will direct avoidance measures and retreat to a safe distance.

The UXO Tech III will start with DAWSON middle of November 2024 in order to complete onboarding and training.

This hourly position pays $43.44 per hour base salary plus $4.93 per hour health and welfare (H&W) benefits and is eligible for hazard pay differential (4%) based on assigned tasks. Please note H&W benefits are paid for a maximum of 40 hours per week. Per diem will not be provided for work on Oahu. Quarterly work is planned at PTA and per diem will be reimbursed for lodging up to $229 per night and flat rate $130 per day for meals.

A UXO resume, copies of applicable certifications, and a current medical clearance certificate should be included with your application.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Responsible for identifying all types of military munitions, including possible fuses and their condition, armed or unarmed.

· Reconnoiter and classify UXO and Discarded Military Munitions (DMM).

· Excavate subsurface UXO and DMM and move and/or consolidate materials that have been determined safe to move by UXO Supervisor.

· May be part of a UXO demolition and disposal team and assist in the inspection of various explosive ordnance.

· Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.

· Properly store explosive materials and prepare an on-site holding area to temporarily stow MEC that has an acceptable risk of movement.

· Perform limited technical supervision in a team leader role of UXO Technician I and Sweeper personnel.· Escort non-UXO qualified personnel that have activities to perform within the UXO exclusion zone.

· Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

· Certificates, licenses and registrations required: 40 Hour HAZWOPER, Current 8 Hour annual HAZWOPER Refresher

· Must be a graduate of a formal UXO training course of instruction or EOD Assistant courses by a certified Department of Defense training facility.

· Must meet the UXO Technician II requirements as promulgated by DDESB TP-18.

· Must have a minimum of 8 years of UXO Technician I experience.

· Must be familiar with and have ability to carry out all job performance requirements in accordance with operational procedures.
