Stationary Engineer

JOB TITLE: Stationary Engineer (Full Time)

SUMMARY: The Stationary Engineer will operate and maintain stationary engines, boilers, and mechanical equipment that provide utilities such as light, heat, or power for buildings and industrial processes. The Stationary Engineer will service a 24/7 laboratory central plant in Maryland.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the correct steam pressure and water level in the steam generators by properly operating the control system.
  • Inspect feed water regulatory controls and gauges.
  • Ensure proper combustion by maintaining the required O2 levels in the exit gasses.
  • Maintain an established chemical program by performing tests, adding the required chemicals to each system, and adjusting system blow-down rates.
  • Operate all auxiliary equipment associated with steam generation, electrical generation, and chilled water production.
  • Maintain correct air pressure by proper adjustment to the air compressors.
  • Maintain site chilled water temperature on the campus.
  • Operate and monitor the chillers for inlet outlet temperatures for the condenser and the evaporator.
  • Ensure the safe operation of all equipment, follow all COVID protocols, and wear proper PPE.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and preventively maintain all equipment that provides steam and compressed air in the Steam and Chilled Water Generation Plant.
  • Measure, cut, and thread pipe.
  • Clean the water and firesides of the steam generators.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control issues associated with direct digital, pneumatic, and electric controls.
  • Repack valves, pump repairs, and maintenance.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as required and as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess current 1st class MD boiler plant operation license.
    • If you hold a current VA or DC 1st Grade License, you must be willing to apply for reciprocity in MD and be issued a MD 1st Grade License within 6 months of hire date.
  • Minimum of 2 years of independent operation as a 1st Class Stationary Engineer.
  • Universal CFC License.
  • Effectively work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Up to date on continuing education courses.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 24/7/365. Shift schedules rotate from day shift to night shift every six weeks.
  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background check.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
