Summary: Perform instructional duties as a Physician Assistant Contract Service Provider (CSP) for the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP), delivering didactic and clinical education for Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant Curriculum, which will include approximately 93 didactic semester hours, classroom/lab instruction, multiple preparation hours, and office hours for assisting students one-on-one, as required.
Job Description:
Plan, refine, and assist in presenting approximately 93 didactic semester hours for Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant education in the IPAP, with each semester being approximately 16 weeks
Develop, evaluate, modify and instruct graduate level classes in fundamentals of clinical medicine and surgery, including human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, patient dispositions, patient education, and PA professional issues
Assist in development and updating of instructional materials (such as lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations)
Incorporate current technical subject matter, DoD doctrine, policies, guidelines, lessons learned, and current work practices into the instructional materials and training program in accordance with the Program of Instruction
Review and revise course materials to include the latest findings in the field to ensure graduate students receive current and accurate information
Develop test questions/student assessments for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 examinations in compliance with established Testing Committee Policies
Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction of lesson topics using approved course materials and methods to ensure students meet established learning objectives
Assist in conducting approximately 80 hours of practical exercises in clinical practice including physical examination techniques, patient model exercises, outpatient medical patient shadowing, and emergency medicine and surgical skills practicums
Provide SME consultation for Computer-/Web-Based Training (CBT/WBT) instructional designers and programmers developing interactive multimedia
Provide SME/scientific technical support that is technically accurate, insightful, and creative; contribute to technical scientific discussions as positive contribution to group/teamwork
Provide academic counsel and Phase 2 Management for 8-12 graduate students minimum in IPAP curriculum
Perform course administrative functions including maintaining student and course administrative records, organizing training materials, and identifying supply needs
Ensure all appropriate university requirements are met IAW policies and guidelines of the affiliating university and that content meets standards prescribed by the ARC-PA and PAEA
Leverage emerging technologies and evidence-based medical literature in class presentations to facilitate student understanding
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree (minimum) in Physician Assistant Studies; Doctoral Degree (minimum) in Physician Assistant Studies preferred for Site Lead position
Certification: Current certification/licensure as Physician Assistant (NCCPA certification)
Clinical Experience: Minimum 10+ years of clinical practice as Physician Assistant required
Teaching Experience: 10+ years Teaching, mentoring, or precepting experience minimum
Military Experience: Must have served in current theater of operations (CENTCOM, AFRICOM) and/or served in a medical role I or II assignment totaling at least 24 months
Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to perform all tasks required of students to the same standard
