Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Enterprise Tele-Behavioral Health Clinical Services (REMOTE)

Summary:

In support of DAWSON’s Enterprise Tele-Behavioral Health Clinical Services contract with the Defense Health Agency (DHA), we are seeking qualified candidates to fill our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner positions.

Salary Range: $120,000-$150,000 based on interview and experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs full range of advanced practice nursing care for treating beneficiaries (children, adolescents, and adults) requesting behavioral health services. The services may be performed on site at the clinic by qualified individuals or by referral to an appropriate network provider. The position requires an individual who can utilize all the skills of an advanced practice nurse to provide comprehensive care. The incumbent will evaluate new patients, gather histories, discuss goals with patients, and implement mutually agreed upon solutions. The advanced practice nurse will prescribe medications, educate patients about risks and benefits, probe for side effects, and monitor progress, always striving to meet the patients' needs. This position functions at an expanded level of responsibility by combining services of the professional nurse and the physician within the framework of mutually established medical guidelines. This position is involved in primary care which is the care of patients at the point of contact with the health care service or the continued care of ambulatory patients.
  • Performs psychiatric intakes and evaluations and prescribes medications. Works closely with other members of the total treatment team in the formulation of the total care plan for patients. Provides comprehensive nursing care for any type of psychiatric patient. Observes patients closely, evaluating and recording any significant behavior and reaction patterns. Screens for and addresses side effects or other medication problems, monitors efficacy, responding as needed.
  • Meets or exceeds quality care standards, achieves clinical excellence, contributes to quality improvement, and strives for high patient satisfaction. Incumbent participates actively in the quality improvement system, to comply with all appropriate Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety goals, and other quality improvement projects.
  • Maintains appropriate records using a computerized record keeping and coding system.
  • Works closely with primary care and other providers in accepting referrals, providing feedback, and sending referrals as needed.
  • Provides feedback and advice to unit commanders and other leaders regarding the well-being of their soldiers.
  • The candidate is required to understand and apply nursing theories and concepts as well as theories and concepts from other disciplines. Candidate will use these theories to problem solve, approach complex behavioral health decision making and impact practice. Serve on multidisciplinary teams to analyze and change organizational practices. Candidate will design, influence, and implement behavioral health care policies at the local, state and national level that frame healthcare financing, practice regulation, access, safety, quality, and efficacy. Implement and/or intervene to improve the behavioral health of entire populations. Incumbent will provide patient care and guide policy change.
  • Professional knowledge of a wide range of professional advanced practice nursing theories procedures and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Knowledge of the basics of other professions on interdisciplinary teams, e.g., basic knowledge of the goals and objectives of psychologists and the tools they use.
  • Knowledge of the roles of team members to ensure that patient treatment is understood.
  • Knowledge of patient's background and medical history.
  • Mastery of personality development theories for evaluating behavior and reaction patterns of patients.
  • Knowledge of group interactions and theories of group therapy.
  • Professional skill and expertise required in motivating and redirecting the behavior of psychiatric patients.
  • Skill in communication in order to persuade psychiatric patients to participate in normal social and recreational activities.
  • Ability and skill to encourage patients to participate in occupational and recreational therapy.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to independently prepare manuscripts, studies and lectures for professionals and/or communication.
  • Expert verbal and writing skills are essential to communicate effectively with the health care team: patients, hospital staff, nurses and physicians.
  • Possesses knowledge of appropriate emergency care, to include basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Baccalaureate Degree of Nursing from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or as otherwise outlined in this PWS. Master’s degree with a specialization in psychiatric mental health care.
  • 2 years or more experience as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support:
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification
  • Certification of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHP)
  • Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse Practitioner.
