Construction Cost Estimator

  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $105000 based on professional experience.
  • Location: Huntsville, AL

Job Summary:

  • Prepare quantity survey takeoff, call work and pricing summaries for major divisions of construction projects to assist in developing proposals.
  • Buy-out responsibilities after contract award when applicable.
  • This position is to be based out of the Huntsville, AL DAWSON Office.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Read and interprets solicitation documents relating to the assigned major divisions.
  • Provides technical support to personnel preparing estimates for assigned divisions.
  • Capable of developing a cognizant Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in multiple formats (DIV, CLIN, other).
  • Creates, manage, and maintain historical data from previous estimates, experiences, and subcontractor knowledge to assist in production of estimates.
  • Soliciting Subcontractor/Vendor contract documents (Invitation to Bid) via FTP site.
  • Reviews estimate/sub proposals to gain information for current bids.
  • Prepares spreadsheets and coordinates with Lead Estimator/Bid team members.
  • Ensure all bid documentation is logged and filed after bid submission.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines and carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Create, Input, and Manage RFP RFI’s into Government Software (Email, POJNET, etc.)
  • Utilize Government RFP Platforms for Project Searching (SAM.Gov, GovWin, PIEE, etc.)
  • Proficient in the following software:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • On-Screen Takeoff or comparable program
    • Smart-Bid or comparable ftp distribution program

**Position will require travel to pre-bid conferences, site visits and/or client meetings as necessary**

Education/Experience:

  • 4-year degree from a college/university in Construction Management and/or engineering related field.
  • 5 Years of competitive estimating experience as a General Contractor with at least 2 years of that estimating Government work.
